*Late* ~Excused~ 5/17 The Apology pp. 51-61

(on paper duh)

I guess that this part of the book is when Socrates explain to this people that what there doing is wrong. He says this because he is being accused for something that isn't wrong. They say that Socrates has polluted their city with his beliefs and teaching but really Socrates is trying to open their eyes and see the wonderful world and city they live in. But like most people they are to ignorant see what they really have until you've lost it.

*Late*~Excused~ 5/16 The Apology

(Underlined stuff is on paper) [duh]

We'll we did the debate today but i didn't have the reading so i didn't do the debate but this came up during the debate. Mr. Jana said, "Wisdom is knowing that you don't know"

This struck me because i thought being wise was that you learned from other peoples mistakes but Socrates is saying that wisdom is knowing when your wrong or in other words ignorance. Socrates is saying that if you know not of everything then you have truly met the standards of wisdom. Also people who say they know all, they truly know nothing.

5/15 Pericles Funeral Oration

I guess Some main points are:

Manliness
Ancestors/Destiny
Kind
Courage
Freedom

This is a good thing for the trial because what was going on here, society, it's that it's a democracy place. Which i suppose means freedom even though Socrates was trying to teach this to others.

Wed 4/25 "Jigsaw Activity"

This is actually just about censorship, which we've been talking about for the past week or so. It talks about 9/11 and terrorist and also The Patriot Act. The Patriot Act is an act that says the government is allowed to look at the books that you buy or maybe check out from the library or look for while you are at a public library. It says that the cause of this was because one of the suspected terrorists of the 9/11 did go into a public library. The Patriot Act goes against our First Amendments. Can't go against those now!

Well this is really important because you have a right to read whatever you want. Nobody should tell you what to read and what NOT to read. I don't support that the government goes and checks what books you've checked out or even looked up on the computer. Also if you just want to know how to make bombs then you should have the free will to make a bomb. But now a days you can't anymore with the government breathing down your neck.

I don't support it at all. No privacy at all what so ever. We shouldn't censor books at all too. In a few years maybe even more those books are not going to be on the shelfs anymore because the government has censored it.

Tuesday 4/24 - The press in times of crisis

Indicate whether your reading selection is pro or con for the above resolution and write three things that support the pro or con position on this issue.

I believe that this part of the reading i did is pro. I say this because of many reasons but here is a few....
The press should keep censoring during war because some of the secrets can only be kept to themself but then it says that because then our enemies could try to come back with something. Good reason for censorship is that in order to protect the people, the army needs to be victorious in their missions, and if the news is getting in the way of them, then they are, and going to be, hurting the American people.

Write a paragraph where you state your opinion on the issue. It should include some evidence from the reading, but it does not have to follow each viewpoint to the letter. You can also include ideas and evidence from other sources or individuals.

I fully agree with this article. The news just can't be waltsing in while there is a crisis going on, that is hurting the people of America. If they must be restricted from the war then so be it. This is trying to save us from the war and i fully support this article. If there is something that needs to be viewed before putting it on the air then let those of the people in the news watch it before being released to the public.

MONDAY 4/23 Viewpoints

Q) For chapter 1, write three things based on the reading that supports the above resolution. This is the "pro" argument.

1A) I think that this world, or maybe just this country, is coming to a huge ending in life because of all the people just wanting to express themselves so much everyday. Sometimes the people don't know when to stop or even know when you've just crossed the line. There are certain boundaries to this and you have to stay in those boundaries or else it's just plain chaos.

Q) For chapter 2, write three things based on the reading that goes against the above resolution. This is the "con" arguement.

A) Well a world without freedom of speech is madness. There would be no ideas and nobody would ever be heard. Also it might just lead to more wars and no peace.

Q) Write a paragraph where you state your opinion on the issue. It should include some evidence from the reading, but it does not have to follow each viewpoint to the letter. You can also include ideas and evidence from other sources or individuals.

A) Well it seems that most of the people just cross the line all the time. But i also believe that they are able to say anything they want but only to a certain extent. After that there can be costly consequences. This won't work if you silents them because then that just wouldn't be fair to that person or the world.

4/19 Don Imus Controversy

1. According to the NAACP, why should Imus be silenced?

Because NAACP believes that if they took Imus out and forced a law of some sort then they might be able to avoid this again. Also NBC doesn't want to lose its people who watch the news.

2. According to Frank Rich, why should Imus not be silenced?

Because Frank Rich says that Imus was the only person who didn't blame anybody else or anything else for this. Like media or youtube. He took full respnsibilty for his action and he doesn't regret it. Also he said that the Rutgers never asked for him to be silenced. Freedom of speech!

3. Do you think Imus should be silenced? Why?

I agree with Frank Rich because everybody has the right to say anything they want to say. Just because Imus said one racial comment doesn't mean he should be fired from his job. I don't think at all the Imus should be fired because the Rutgers didn't ask for him to be fired or silenced. I'm also saying that he should be silenced because there is a place and time for that but it was on the news and the girls didn't do anything. They were just playing basketball for their school. So im half and half.

4/18 Plato Reading and Blog

1. Why should plays, and acting in them be regulated? What is potentially beneficial or harmful from acting in a play?

I BELIEVE that plays and acting and such should be regulated at all. Moving onto the Plato, Plato is saying that plays should be regulated because So I suppose I should say that plays and acting in them should be regulated because Plato says on page 89, " 'And it will also apply to representation; a man cannot play many parts as well as he can one.' " I see it this way that he is showing us that a different man cannot run another mans life. He can only do what destiny has chosen for him. It's also a delusion of one's belief that you are, certainly destined to do one job over another that you were born into. This is just a view of what Plato is saying. I go a new direction.

TUE 4/17- Helpful Blog Comments

Review the comments that classmates have made on your blog and choose two or three of them that you found particularly helpful.

This one was from Kit,

Daniel,

I agree with most of what you said. I think that happiness is something diffrent for each person, and what brings me happiness, me being a relitively just person, will not be the same that brings a murderer happiness, someone who is, it could be argued, unjust.

I sont agree with what you said about said about Socrates. I dont think that Socrates would have said that rules were meant to be broken, I think that Socrates beleived in MOST rules, just not all of them.

Over all, good job!
Kit

I believe that kit wrote a great comment because she provided suggestions for the content. I'm not to sure how this is helpful but know that she agrees with me makes me feel smarter and also the second paragraph she is disagreeing with me which is good because i can see her point of view. Also some helpful things to keep in mind

Written By Austin Han:

I like this piece, because it is really good that you described what you don't like and why. but,i think that the piece could be longer, what made you think that way about people. Did anything before happen to you?

I think that this piece was really good because Austin is asking questions about why does this make me so mad. I think that's is a good question because it might make that paragraph more sense and i probably should have already have that in there. Also he ask me if this really happened to be. It might have been good to relate to what i was writing.

That's It!

3/28 Plato Assignment

Q) Short Paragraph – Personal Reflection: Before reading the selection from Plato write at least one full paragraph on this question: Why do you think Plato (or anyone else) would want to censor Homer? Think about Achilles as a "hero," and why or why not his personal characteristics are something that should be promoted, or not.

It is because he is showing people how the heroes are wrong. Achilles was shown as a self caring and horrible warrior.

Q) Short Answers – Text based questions. Answer both questions, answers can be just a few sentences

a) According to Plato, what are some aspects of poetry that should be banned and why? In other words, how can poetry undermine the education of a Guardian?

Not Sure what undermines means but i'll still use it. It undermines it by explaining certain emotions (laughing) into the Guardians, then it's undermining all their training.

b) What should poetry “teach” and why?

Poetry should emphasize the gods, heroes, and values, also should teach people how they should act and what to do. Because poetry might have some knowledge in it and can teach others about life.

Q) If you were talking to Plato what would you say to him? Do you agree with his ideas? Do you think poetry, or literature in general, should be put to the purposes that he says it should?

I would tell him straight forward that his idea will never survive in society, it would be impossible for his ideas to come to a success. His ideas are almost impossible to actually happen and it's messing with some of the humans' natural instincts, such as emotions.

More Of The Republic

Q) Short Paragraph – Personal Reflection: Before reading the selection from Plato write at least one full paragraph on this question: Why do you think Plato (or anyone else) would want to censor Hesiod? Remember that Hesiod was the poet who wrote about the fight between the gods and the titans.

A) The reason is because it's not goingto what Plato and his peers are trying to say, and his beliefs are not being heard.Instead people believe in god. Plato is just angry because his beliefs can be heard. Plato thinks that Hesiod's is wrong, and that people should listen to him, rather then Hesiod.

Q) What are Homer and Hesiod guilty of?

A) Telling the wrong things about the gods and ancient heroes.

Q) What are the two main characteristics of “god” and what are the laws/principles of story telling based on those characteristics?

A) They say god is the cause of all good things, and that it does not cause anything bad to happen. Gods must be believed as if they are in reality.

Q) Compare what you wrote in your personal reflection above (#1) with what Plato wrote. How close were you to what Plato wrote?

A) I really don't know

Happy......?

If you act justly, will you find happiness? (Socrates)

I believe if you act justly you will indeed find happiness. Also if you act unjustly you can find happiness. The reason i think this is because in any way you can find happiness. But you might feel guilty for what you did. Also like what Socrates said, some people have to be unjust sometimes to get justice in return. Though these laws are terrible you can't always follow the rules, rules were meant to be broken. Socrates says, these rebels can face challenges in their lives. He was against a lot of people's opinions, and he got put to death by his own people. Which doesn't seem right to me at all.

Prompt: ~Harm Or No Harm~

Prompt: In your opinion, how can acting “right” (i.e. justly) help or harm the achievement of happiness? In your answer you need to first establish, in true Socratic fashion, what you mean by "right" (justice) and what you mean by happiness. What do you think Socrates would say about what you wrote and/or what do you think Thrasymachus would say?

Well i believe that with every great cause theres a catch to it. Or like a saying "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" So if you do something right or something good then there might be a catch. For example, when you have to go to college but its like clear across the country your family members don't want you to go because they'll miss you. But you want whats best for you so you have to go so you can reach your goal to achieve your life long dream, but as doing so your hurting your family members. This might not relate at all to the question but yah.

Justice: Doing Something right

My version of Happiness is doing something that you enjoy. If you love to play soccer or draw pictures then that would be your kind of happiness. As well, one thing will not make everyone happy.

They would probably ask for clarification on what i mean by "right" or "justice"
Also NEVER harm somebody for selfish reasons. Or revenge. Only for self-defense or being assaulted 1st.

3/20 Republic Assignment

1. Notice that our reading on Thrasymachus is divided into two parts. The first part is entitled – “First Statement and Criticisms”. In this first part, what are Socrates’ main argument(s) against the idea that justice is whatever the strong (i.e. the government) says it is?

That it's right to do what the stronger says and the stronger party sometimes makes rules that seem unfair or sometimes not in their interest.

That the rules the stronger makes are always in their interest of their subjects, not just themselves.

2. In the second part – “Second Statement and Final Refutation” – what are Thrasymahcus’ two main points and what are Socrates’ two main points in response?

Justice is what is good for someone else, especially the stronger
Socrates' response: This is the opposite of what he said earlier, where a doctor/Stronger will always help his people/patients

Injustice is just as good as justice it self
Socrates' response: There is always punishment for injustice

3. In your opinion, is it ever right to harm somebody? Why or why not? What would Socrates and/or Thrasymachus say in response to your answer?

I don't believe it's right at all to harm somebody. Especially if it's for revenge or selfish reasons. If you believe in Karma then what you do to that person then it will come around and bite you back. Besides if you do something to that person for something bad your only swooping down to there level and your not helping anybody. I'm Not Sure what they would say really. Haven't got a clue. They might disagree with me probably.

~A Friend~

A friend.

A friend is like a living part of you that you are able to see and talk to about anything on your mind. A friend is somebody who you can call anytime of the day when needed. Someone you can trust to be there for you. A friend is somebody who knows you from the inside out as well as you do. Who knows your fears and knows your joys. A friend is someone who you can share you preaches moments and also your embarrassing moments. Also more importantly someone who likes you for who you are, not from what people think of you. A friend is there to stand up for you in the tightest moments.

"A Friend is a Life"

3/16 "Class Work"

Q: In your opinion, is Polemarchus definition of justice, derived from the poet Simonedes, an improvement from his father’s definition?

A: No Clue as of right now

Q: What is Simonides definition of justice? Has Polemarchus interpreted him correctly?

A: Simonedes says that justice is helping your friends and hurting your enemies. Polemarchus actually agrees with this.

Q: What problem does Socrates see in the phrase, “helping one’s friends and harming ones enemies”? Why is this not an accurate definition of justice?

A: He says that the quote is related too much on emotion. It doesn't take into consideration that maybe your enemy could be a good person and your friend be a bad person.

Q;What lesson do you think Socrates/Plato is trying to prove by having Polemarchus give in to Socrates when his father (Cephalus) would not?

A: The lesson shows that the young and inexperienced are hasty to change their mind than an older and experienced person because the young don't know a lot that the older people know. So maybe the younger don't know what there getting into.

Q: Whose argument do you find more convincing, Polemarchus or Socrates? Why? (This should be a longer response, short paragraph, about 5 sentences).

A: I would have to say that Socrates is more convinicing then Polemarchus in this argument. The reason is because Polemarchus' belief is based only on the needs of the believer. What he thinks doesn't spread out and take care of everyone else. Justice is meant to bring peace to all good men. If you're going to defend your friends and only hurt you enemies, this only means that you only care for yourself and nobody else around you.

Similie of the Cave (Section 1)

1. Socrates asks Glaucon to suppose that one of the prisoners is freed and leaves the cave (p. 242 section 515d). What happens to the prisoner when he gets outside? Why does this happen to the prisoner?

Glaucon says that, if the prisoners were to be left loose, they would be dazzled and wouldn't be able to handle it. They wouldn't be able to believe that what they were seeing in the cave were all a lie. They would have to be dragged out of the cave if they were to see the world.

2. Socrates states that the prisoners would try to kill anyone who tries to liberate them and lead them out of the cave (pp. 243 – 244 section 517a). Why would the prisoners kill someone who is trying to lead them outside?

Because they believe that what they all need is in this cave. They believe now what is showed to them by using shadows.

3.What is special about “the intelligible region” and why is it important for public servants/political leaders (p. 244 section 517 b and e) ?

Well it's saying that it's controlling the source of truth and intelligence.

4. What is wrong with having uneducated people run society? What is wrong with having intellectuals (i.e. well-educated people) run society (p. 323 section 519c)?

I couldn't find this part in the book even though it says it there but i don't think that's right. But i believe it's bad because they don't know what they are doing. Also they might not apply a force against the people. It might as well be a mad house with no rules.

5. On pp. 323 – 324 (section 519 section d – section 520) Socrates tells Glaucon what the “job” of a lawmaker is. What is the job of a lawmaker and how is a lawmaker supposed to influence the best minds?

...theres no page 323-324. So im sort of confused on this.

Fact From Fiction (Plato)

Well there was this one time at the beginning of "Loose Change" where it was saying that the government planned out something against cuba? i think. I don't quite remember but when i saw that i was blown away because i thought the government was on our side. They were suppose to help us but when i saw that it was unbelievable.

It made me realize what this world has come too and that we are actually being censored and we don't even know it. Also as well as anger. I was really mad too hear that we were being lied to for so long.

But afterwards i wasn't too surprised because, Julian, always says that everything is a government conspiracy and now i really believe that so it wasn't to surprised.

~*~*PRIDE*~*~

Well i have i would have to say that most likely my self esteem is in the middle. Usually I'm afraid of what would people think of me if i was to be like this. Or if i was to say something i would rethink it and wonder if that would be the right thing to say. Though some self esteem does help me in many ways. Example if somebody said something about my shoes or anything of my clothing. I wouldn't not care. It's wants inside that counts and for people like me for who i am. Though i am pretty happy how i am right now. I wouldn't change too much about me right now.

3/2 Iliad Assignment

Well during this section of the book, even though we skipped through it, it was very clear. Nothing much happened just that Patroclus goes into battle for Achilles. Wearing Achilles armor so everybody would think that he has returned. Sadly Patroclus is cut short from his mission. Apollo shoots a spear straight threw him. But Patroclus has a vision saying that Apollo is going to be killed by Achilles to avenge his death. Apollo laughs at the fact.

No Questions!

Patroclus will Indeed be Avenged!

3/1 Iliad Reading

Patroclus is going to fight for Achilles. Patroclus and the Myrmidons are all ready for battle and tired of sitting around. Patroclus thinks that if they see Achilles’ armor, even if it’s not him underneath it, everybody would have the courage to fight again and also might scare the Trojans if they see that Achilles has rejoined the fight. Achilles agrees to this.

I'm not to sure about this quote but i think he means that he is a coward. I don't believe Achilles is a coward but i think that is what Patroclus is trying to say. But i believe he is saying that because he might be cursed because of his courage.

2/28 Iliad Assignment

1. Write a question you have about the text, either an interpretive question that you have an opinion on, or something that you don't understand. You don't need to write the answer.

Q:
My question is if Achilles ever got Briseis? They go and apologize but never said if they gave her back.

2. What was your opinion of Achilles before reading Book 9? Does it change after reading Book 9? Explain why or why not.

Q: Well i think Achilles was this really amazing character and he is also very smart. He knows when to fight and when not to. Also he's very concerned about his Arete and his public esteem. Though i think he changes a little from book 1 to book 9 because now he is double crossing his own people and working with enemies. But i still think he is really smart because he does not want to help Agamemnon anymore. He wants to feel wanted and needed.

3. Same as yesterday - Make a list of the persuasive strategy used by these characters, following this format:

Q:
This is also involving Phoenix which is on page 266 Phoenix shows how little he likes Achilles’ plan of leaving. He asks him if he can honestly be thinking of leaving. He tries so hard to get Achilles to come back and fight. More like pride her then anything else

One other good one is on page 269. A man who sat out of battle to try and make Achilles come back to the fight. He begs him too, and then it is too late for him to g the prizes other men offered in an attempt to bring him back. There seems to be a lot of emotion being used here.

First one is with Phoenix, on page 268. He talks about how that even the gods change and can be won over with bribes. He says that anybody could be bribed to do whatever somebody else wants them to do but Achilles is not. Uses more emotions.

2/27 – Iliad Assignment

1. Write a question. It can be an interpretive question that you have an opinion on or something about the text that you don't understand. You do not need to write the answer.

Q: One thing that is really confusing to me that a lot of people had as well was, during this paper Agamemnon is telling his army that they are not able to take over troy. Wasn't Agamemnon trying to take over Troy? Why all of a sudden does he not want to take over troy?

2. What was your opinion of Agamemnon before reading this section? Does your opinion of him change after reading it? Why or why not? A one paragraph reply is fine, minimum of 6 solid setneces, but you are encouraged to write more.

Q: Well first off Agamemnon seems extremely greedy and a very selfish king. He's the type of person you use to describe someone bad. Although he seems like he is a dedicated man and seems to follow in whatever he puts his mind into. For instance, taking over Troy. I believe that he knew it would be a hard task but he seem like he knew what he was doing. Still he seems to care nobody but himself.
Like when Helen's father asked to fight against Hector's brother for Helen. Agamemnon thought that was a joke and he doesn't care for his comrades daughter, only himself.

3. At various points in the text some characters attempt to persuade other characters to take a course of action. Examples of characters using persuasion include Nestor, Odysseus, and Ajax. Make a list of the persuasive strategy used by these characters, following this format:

Q:Odysseus is brought into the story is a messenger of Agamemnon that was brought to Achilles. Though he repeats the same thing he says that he should take pity for not helping anybody. That he is letting everybody down. Which is located on page 261. So this is also another good example of emotions being used.

One great example that i found was on page 252. Diomedes stands up to the counsel telling them to not abandon hope on taking over Troy. This seems to lead to emotions in it because he really wants to win over troy and be remembered.

Another great one was when Agamemnon tries to persuade Achilles join the war again and fight for him. This is a great reason because Agamemnon needs Achilles for Agamemnon's greedy needs. I don't think he uses his emotions or anything else, but just greed.

Iliad Reflection - Book One

If you were an ancient Greek, which of the following statements would you agree with?

A) Achilles’ rage is justified and I support his decision not to fight, even if it means the Greeks might lose lots of men, or even the war itself.

This statement is really true and i defiantly agree with it. The reason is is because Briseis is so important to two people, The Greeks and, of course, Achilles. Briseis is like Achilles war prize and if he were to give her back to the priest his public esteem would just go straight down and that's not what Achilles wants. This leads up to Apollo sending a horrible plague to all the Greeks and ends up killing lots of the Greeks. Though Achilles doesn't care he just wants everybody to remember his name for hundreds of years.

Disagreements and Fights...

One time when i had a fight was with my sister about a new phone. My sister was going to get a new phone from Verizon. And as usual i wanted a new one too but my sister didn't want me to have a new phone since i already had a lot of other stuff that were expensive. But i said that i earned my money and paid for more then half of my stuff. So we argued about that i worked for my money and she said that i had way too much stuff. Then it got sort of physical and she started to push me but i didn't do anything back. I just thought she sort of got over exagerated.

"My Rage-Cause"

I was angry when people get racist with other people. They seem like if your Mexican that your nothing but poor people trying to get jobs by crossing over borders illegally and that thats all Mexicans. Or if your black you steal stuff and that's all black people.

THAT is not true! Everybody is different and not all people are the same. Every person is unique and have their own personality and different ways of thinking. So whenever somebody is being racist to me or anybody else i know it just shows what kind of people they are. So really the thing that gets me really mad is when people are racist.

2/8 Descriptive Writing Assignment

For this Descriptive Writing Assignment that was given to us by our teacher Mr. Jana. We had to take one of the characters in the scene and rewrite it (or something similar) from that person’s perspective.

I chose to do re-write the lady in the house that stayed in the house, with her books, even when Montag and the other firemen said to get out. But she didn't listen and she lite her match and made a casket her size.

"Act 5, Juliet finds Romeo on the floor lifeless." It was a dark and cold night. Inside was quite the opposite. Warm and cozy as a cat and a too comfy couch you'd think your on a cloud. Nothing beats a Shakespeare book while having a cup of tea. Later during the night, has i was getting ready for bed, i heard a noise in the distance, fire truck sirens and engines roaring like an angry mob. As i feared for many years has come. Everything froze around me like a warp in time. Tires screech to a hault infront of my house and firemen jumping out. Door slams open and i run to my library hoping the firemen will not find it. I had yelled at the firemen as they rushed into the room. Firemen grab me by my arms and hauled away and all i hear is fire crackling like pop rocks in a soda can. They escorted me out and i just fell to the ground crying. Firemen come out and tell me to get out. I just sit there, on my knees, not moving at all. They yell at me 'get out'. I stand up and shake my head side to side. Lift my arm and show the firemen a match and scratch it on the front porch and blur was everywhere around me.

Descriptive Writing Assignment (Fahrenheit 451)

I know most people used this same scene but this really drew me into it. It was so intense and descriptive. The thing weird about this scene is that she didn't seem scared or frightened about her and the house burning.

Some words i thought were very interesting were:

Clumsily—pg. 38
Irritation-pg. 37
Accusing—pg. 37
Condemnation—pg. 39
Contempt—pg. 40
Weaving—pg. 36
Objectivity—pg. 36
Immense-pg. 37
Flaking-pg.35

2/6 - Hesiod Writing Assignment

1. What do you think this myth tells about the ancient Greeks? What values did they have? Why would a story like this develop?

Well i believe that, for one, they had a very creative and very big imagination going on. Also they seem very religious and took proud in there gods and respected them. They might have been very power and know what life was about.

Some values they had were man hood. Things that meant that you were a man and fully grown. The gods were very care taken of their power and tried to make them seem the top of everybody. So whenever they had children most of the gods would fear them because they were afraid that they would over throw them and take over.

This story will be passed down for...longer then we think. It might also be more famous and be spread throught the whole world.

Descriptive Writing Assignment

One of metaphors I really liked that i used was "like Ice cubes in a freezer..."
The reason why i chose this was because i thought it was very detailed in such small words. It was like you cold feel was it was trying to get out to you. Cold, lonely, nobody but the fog itself.

Dylan's Blog:
Dylan, i thought this was a well thought out paragraph. I really liked the way you used the sound of the clock and when it goes off. As well as the sound in the back of your head was genuis. Nice paragraph.

1. Ask a question

For has of right now i don't have to many questions how this quote is important..'And when they ask us what we are doing , you can say, We’re remembering..' in the book.

A. What does Granger mean when he says, quoting his grandfather, “Shake the tree and knock the great sloth down on his ass”? Why is this quote important? How does it fit into the novel, what is Bradbury trying to say with this?

I thought this quote was very true and inspiring because he said, a little before this, that the sloth just sleeps up in the tree missing the world around him not caring about anything but himself. And earlier he said that Granger said that his grandpa said to him to 'Live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds...' This is really important because everybody in the book are not living life the way it's suppose to be. It's been being lived by somebody else (Government). I'm not to sure on how it fits into the book at all. I'll get back to you on that. That's all.

Fahrenheit 451 pp. 138-154

1. Write one or more questions that you have.

I'm really confused on what was going on when Montag got in the water and started to walk upstream i suppose. It was saying that the sun was shining on him and that the stars looked like they were about to roll over him. This was when he ran away from the police. But I'm not to sure what was going on at this time.

How has Montag changed from the beginning of the novel to this part? In writing about this you might want to notice that the environment has changed from the city to nature. Is this a coincidence or is the author trying to say something by contrasting the city to nature in relation to the ways Montag has changed.

Montag, i believe, has really changed since the beginning of the book. He seems to have become a new person. He knows what wrong with the world and what its come to. I would have to say that every time he seems to change so does whats around him. Things change around him and so does he. He's less aggressive and more down to earth.

Fahrenheit 451 pp. 126-137

Find a line from the story or a paragraph that you like and explain why you like it.

Well my favorite paragraph, in this part of the book, was when Montag was explaining how he was walking away from a beetle that was hurdling towards him at about 130 mph.
It was really explained well in a very good writing standard. It really made me feel like i was about to get hit by the car.

Explain what you find interesting or exciting in this part of the book.

What i found really found exciting in this part of the book was when he was running away from the car and how that the car kept speeding up and how he could hear the engine of the car getting closer to him. The light of the beetle was engulfed in its own light. Also when Faber and Montag were watching that Post Card size T.V. I really liked how they explained the new mechanical hound that they made and how it could track anybody it wants.

Fahrenhiet 452 pp. 110-125

In this section of the book we find out that Mildred was behind the report of Montag burning down the fire houses. Something that was also very dramatic and eye catching was when Montag kills Captain Beatty. Eventually he ends up killing the hound.
The quote i chose from this section was on page 114. It read "There was a crash like falling parts of a dream fashioned out of warped glass, mirrors, and crystal prisms."
The reason why i chose this quote was because it had so much information about what was going on. It was like you could actually hear dreams fall apart from one another. Hearing everything. Seeing the broken mirrors around you not knowing whats around you like a room full of mirrors. It also seems very sad to hear and read.

I believe the two most important scenes in the book is in the parlor where Montag reads them a poem from "Dover Beach"

B) Faber jokingly proposes a plan of action and then starts to discuss it seriously with Montag. What is the plan? Why does he say it won't work? Why won't it work?

The plan is that Faber says if they make copies of the books and plant them in the firemen's houses all over the country so that people will figure out that they have books and they would burn down the houses.
Faber says that it won't work because they aren't enough people to trust and to help them carry out the plan. Also they were wondering how they would make more copies without anybody ratting out on them.

Descriptive Paragraph Numero Dos

Something I'm really looking forward to is summer. Summer is a time for enjoyment. Where kids can have a great and silly time with their friends and/or family. I'm sure every kid who goes to school every weekday is looking forward to a wonderful summer. Kids can be very vivacious and happy of course. They could eat and enjoy a full breakfast everyday without worries of being late to school. When they wake up they can smell the morning air and have the time to hear everything around them. Maybe even see the world in a whole new way. Also if your lucky enough you could host your own house party anytime you want. I'm just saying summer is a time to relax and enjoy life to the fullest. That's why I'm looking forward to summer.

I'm sort of confused about the Jets and the Bombers that always fly over Montag's house. Why are they there?

I Choose to do question: B. How will books get us out of "the cave?" What is the cave and how will books get us out of it?

Well i believe that the cave is where this whole world, generally speaking from the book, is. Trapped in a closed cave where the government rules their everyday lives. I'm thinking that if we read about the past we could define the future. Confucius once said, "Study the past if you wish to define the future". Something like that. Also the people in this book don't know anything so if they knew things they could see the world like never before. They only know what the government tells them and shows them. So i think that this means that books are a way out of certain things and if they read books they would know more about the world and the people living on it.

Is it better to be ignorant and happy OR is it better to be aware, educated and disturbed at the world?

I would have to say that, from Captain Beatty's point of view, being ignorant and happy is much better then to be aware, educated and disturbed at the world. Bad thing with this is that people will not learn much or might not learn anything but just to burn books. Thus leading to unhappiness and want the need to learn and know things. In Captain Beatty's view he is saying that if you simply don't like something Burn it. But this doesn't do much because people are going to be curious want to know more. Captain Beatty's is basically saying that you'd be happier if you didn't know anything. Also you could fool other people into thinking your happy.

If this was in my view i would be very confused.

What I Fear, Dread

A cool, shiver that runs my back everyday i wake up not knowing what the day has in store for me. Confronting my fears just to wake up and freezes every nerve in my body like Ice cubes in a freezer. Having fear is like having the world on my back, never leaving me until i over come then. Making me hold my breath just to keep the weight up. I have nothing to fear but fear itself. Being in me for as long as i live.

1)I'm confused about why she was saying 'Master Ridley' and 'Play the man'. Also why did she stay in the house when she could walk out the door with all the memory of the books in her head?

1) Montag compares Mildred (his wife) to Clarisse and says that Clarisse seems older. In what way does Clarisse act more mature and WHY do you think she is more mature? Why does Bradbury (the author) make the contrast between the two?

I believe that Clarisse acts older because she seems to know a lot about everything. She seems very wise, knows how other people think and why they do the things they do.
I'm not to sure why Bradbury contrast them both but maybe it's to show that a younger lady could be much wiser and more mature then an older woman

2) How are the people in the novel – both children and adults - similar and/or different from people today?

I i think they're different because most kids today don't get the chance to see things outside because they are in school all day pretty much. Though when kids do get the chance they usually spend most of their time watching TV or playing Video Games or on the computer. Not sure how they are similar.

1) What im most confused about is when he was in the house. I didn't get what was happening in the bedroom with the jets and bombers and himself getting chopped in half. What was happening there?

1) Even before Montag and his wife Mildred talk to one another we know that they are alienated (distant) from one another. How does the author convey this?

By using Jets and bombers to say how hard it is to get where Montag wants which is where Mildred is.
