1. Write a question you have about the text, either an interpretive question that you have an opinion on, or something that you don't understand. You don't need to write the answer.
Q: My question is if Achilles ever got Briseis? They go and apologize but never said if they gave her back.
2. What was your opinion of Achilles before reading Book 9? Does it change after reading Book 9? Explain why or why not.
Q: Well i think Achilles was this really amazing character and he is also very smart. He knows when to fight and when not to. Also he's very concerned about his Arete and his public esteem. Though i think he changes a little from book 1 to book 9 because now he is double crossing his own people and working with enemies. But i still think he is really smart because he does not want to help Agamemnon anymore. He wants to feel wanted and needed.
3. Same as yesterday - Make a list of the persuasive strategy used by these characters, following this format:
Q: This is also involving Phoenix which is on page 266 Phoenix shows how little he likes Achilles’ plan of leaving. He asks him if he can honestly be thinking of leaving. He tries so hard to get Achilles to come back and fight. More like pride her then anything else
One other good one is on page 269. A man who sat out of battle to try and make Achilles come back to the fight. He begs him too, and then it is too late for him to g the prizes other men offered in an attempt to bring him back. There seems to be a lot of emotion being used here.
First one is with Phoenix, on page 268. He talks about how that even the gods change and can be won over with bribes. He says that anybody could be bribed to do whatever somebody else wants them to do but Achilles is not. Uses more emotions.
