*Late* ~Excused~ 5/17 The Apology pp. 51-61

(on paper duh)

I guess that this part of the book is when Socrates explain to this people that what there doing is wrong. He says this because he is being accused for something that isn't wrong. They say that Socrates has polluted their city with his beliefs and teaching but really Socrates is trying to open their eyes and see the wonderful world and city they live in. But like most people they are to ignorant see what they really have until you've lost it.

We'll we did the debate today but i didn't have the reading so i didn't do the debate but this came up during the debate. Mr. Jana said, "Wisdom is knowing that you don't know"

This struck me because i thought being wise was that you learned from other peoples mistakes but Socrates is saying that wisdom is knowing when your wrong or in other words ignorance. Socrates is saying that if you know not of everything then you have truly met the standards of wisdom. Also people who say they know all, they truly know nothing.

5/15 Pericles Funeral Oration

I guess Some main points are:

Courage
Freedom

This is a good thing for the trial because what was going on here, society, it's that it's a democracy place. Which i suppose means freedom even though Socrates was trying to teach this to others.

Wed 4/25 "Jigsaw Activity"

This is actually just about censorship, which we've been talking about for the past week or so. It talks about 9/11 and terrorist and also The Patriot Act. The Patriot Act is an act that says the government is allowed to look at the books that you buy or maybe check out from the library or look for while you are at a public library. It says that the cause of this was because one of the suspected terrorists of the 9/11 did go into a public library. The Patriot Act goes against our First Amendments. Can't go against those now!

Well this is really important because you have a right to read whatever you want. Nobody should tell you what to read and what NOT to read. I don't support that the government goes and checks what books you've checked out or even looked up on the computer. Also if you just want to know how to make bombs then you should have the free will to make a bomb. But now a days you can't anymore with the government breathing down your neck.

I don't support it at all. No privacy at all what so ever. We shouldn't censor books at all too. In a few years maybe even more those books are not going to be on the shelfs anymore because the government has censored it.

Tuesday 4/24 - The press in times of crisis

Indicate whether your reading selection is pro or con for the above resolution and write three things that support the pro or con position on this issue.

I believe that this part of the reading i did is pro. I say this because of many reasons but here is a few....
The press should keep censoring during war because some of the secrets can only be kept to themself but then it says that because then our enemies could try to come back with something. Good reason for censorship is that in order to protect the people, the army needs to be victorious in their missions, and if the news is getting in the way of them, then they are, and going to be, hurting the American people.

Write a paragraph where you state your opinion on the issue. It should include some evidence from the reading, but it does not have to follow each viewpoint to the letter. You can also include ideas and evidence from other sources or individuals.

I fully agree with this article. The news just can't be waltsing in while there is a crisis going on, that is hurting the people of America. If they must be restricted from the war then so be it. This is trying to save us from the war and i fully support this article. If there is something that needs to be viewed before putting it on the air then let those of the people in the news watch it before being released to the public.
